Why is construction safety one of the most talked about topics?

Maralyn Kastel - Friday, June 14, 2013

Did you ever notice that construction safety or lack of, is a major topic in just about any form of media? It seems that on an almost daily basis you can read stories that have been published about the recent construction mishap that occurred someplace in the world.

Recently the headlines have included the building collapse in Pennsylvania, the construction accident at the Delhi Metro project in India, or the incident that occurred in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai involving the collapse of a concrete platform that killed five Chinese workers and injured 18 others.

This makes it quite obvious why this topic is in the forefront of anyone involved with this industry.  An article recently published in Construction Business Owner.com summed it up very accurately: -

“Creating a culture of safety should be the highest priority and the moral obligation of every individual in the construction industry, from the CEO or president to the newly hired employee sweeping the floors.”

Which leads to the question of - how can anyone, especially a business owner who already has a lot on their plate, stay on top of the latest codes of practice, regulations, legislation and most current requirements to be compliant?

This question leads us to the point that it can be difficult for someone involved in the construction industry to stay up to date with current regulations and have effective solutions for ensuring the enforcement of work health and safety requirements. Not only are you required to have a Work health & Safety Management plan (for construction over $250,000) but this is just the starting point if you want compete for tenders or gain external accreditation such AS/NZS 4801.

The best, and safest way (no pun intended) to make certain that your business handles this is with the assistance of experts who are well-trained and experienced in the areas of workplace health and safety.

A team of professionals who make it their business to be informed of current requirements and regulations will provide the most knowledgeable and up-to-date policies to help your business maintain health and safety standards that are compliant.

The help and guidance that are available from these experts will allow you to operate your business with less stress and concern, allowing you to focus on running your business, which is what you can do best.

When you follow the steps and complete the procedures and processes prepared for you by experts to enforce effective safety measures and maintain the necessary records. Regular toolbox talks or safety meetings is just one way to improve awareness, encourage workers to be involved and reducing the risks of accidents, incidents or failing to comply with legislative requirements.

Your construction business can take advantage of this type of assistance when you contact us to provide you the help that you and your business deserve.
