The Victorian Government confirmed its support for the principle of harmonisation, however the Government is seeking a more detailed analysis of the impacts and benefits of the proposed changes for Victorian workplaces. The Government has indicated that once the additional analysis is completed and evaluated during the next several months, it will then determine Victoria's approach to OHS national harmonisation.
In the meantime, WorkSafe will continue to enforce Victoria’s existing Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 and Compliance Codes.
For further details of the Victorian Government’s position, refer to the following media releases of 14 September 2011 and 28 September 2011.
